Miss Personality

I'm way behind on my blog posts. Remind me to tell you about our trip to Florida, Father's Day, and our camping trip. In the meantime, enjoy a few minutes of Nora zooming around the living room, taking frequent-- but very short-- breaks to lay her head down on the floor pillows. (Note the many drool stains on the pillows, which are silk. I guess only childless people buy silk floor pillows.)

Apologies in advance for the shaky camera work, though in some circles that's considered avant garde. And if the world clamors for more, I've got a few more videos from the same afternoon.

I'm just going to pretend somebody clamored, because I really like this video too.

Once Bitten

I've blogged before about being bitten while breastfeeding (specificallly, being bitten by the baby), but I tell you now: I didn't know what boob pain was until I was bitten by a baby with both top and bottom teeth. It's like those things were made to cut meat apart or something.

So last night Nora chomped down, hard. I gibbered like a hyena, and for once she didn't laugh. This morning she nursed normally, but she hasn't nursed since then. After work she started to nibble on me, so I took her off the titmouse immediately and fed her some sweet potatoes instead. An hour later, I tried again. We gazed warily at each other across the knocker. She narrowed her eyes and declined. And declined again before bed, so I sadly made her a bottle.

I had only just started to muse about weaning. I never saw myself as one of those people who nurses so long the kid texts her friends in the middle of a breastfeeding session, but I thought it might be months yet before it was all over. What if this is it? It could be a "nursing strike," and we might go back to normal tomorrow, or not. This is probably one of those situations-- like taking her to daycare-- that's harder on me than it is on her. But I'm somewhat fearful that my sharp yowl last night traumatized her and scared her off. Anybody out there experience this?

God Says Yes to Me

I don't like to talk much about religion, because I think it's an incredibly private topic; but I want to post here a beautiful poem that someone once sent me. It's a sweet, loving view of God that I'd be happy to pass on to Nora.

God Says Yes To Me
by Kaylin Haught

I asked God if it was okay to be melodramatic
and she said yes
I asked her if it was okay to be short
and she said it sure is
I asked her if I could wear nail polish
or not wear nail polish
and she said honey
she calls me that sometimes
she said you can do just exactly
what you want to
Thanks God I said
And is it even okay if I don't paragraph
my letters
Sweetcakes God said
who knows where she picked that up
what I'm telling you is
Yes Yes Yes
